~ef 「Minori」 the first tale~

Almost didn’t manage to get this post up at all, thanks to the game popping up a cryptic message telling me my settings didn’t allow me to run this game. After spending a rather torturing 2 hours updating drivers and whatnot that wasn’t really needed, I finally came upon the solution in a forum. And now the clock on my PC tells me the local time in Tokyo… -_-”

Before we proceed further, do take the time to watch the promo movie of this game. It’s really beautiful ^^ Subtitled too! :p

Lovely isn’t it? ^^

No extras whatsoever this time since it’s an old game, and I actually got this game off Hobby Search. It’s cool that they sell games now too. Another reason why I got this other than to try out how HS deals with games would be to support Minori somewhat I guess. Put an order in for the latter tale as well and figured it doesn’t quite make sense to grab the 2nd part and not get the first ^^; So when I saw this was listed as restocked, I grabbed it =)

Other than another sheet of paper within the box that has the serial number, this is pretty much the only other thing the box contains =/ Something I’m not quite used to ^^;

A very pretty disc, which incidentally, isn’t needed once the game is installed.

Lots of CGs in this game, and it certainly is one of the nicest looking games I’ve played so far. The art style is something I really like. And from the anime, I liked the story very much as well and hopefully this game fills in more details. The above two pictures are actually cutscenes in the prologue section of the game. Not so much animated, but the camera pans in and out or left and right during these scenes.

And the above sequence tells of when Yuu met Yuko while he was younger. Sorry about the amount of caps, this game is just so pretty that I couldn’t help myself ^^;

And thus ends their recollection of their youth. And once again we’re brought back to the church where they reunited, and they soon begin retelling their stories to one another…

And from this church cutscene, the camera moves upwards, and the tale moves on from the prologue to Chapter 1 - Miyako Miyamura.

A really lovely looking game, and apparently pretty short too owing to a huge amount of CGs (more than a thousand). It’s truly a lovely looking game, and if you liked the anime, this game might be a nice grab, even if it messes with the regional clock settings of your pc ^^;

  1. OH WOW!!!!!
    Want to play!!! Your lucky to be able to play this. I have a Lucky Star fighting game, but it doesn’t work. I can’t figure it out after 5 hours. I just gave up.
    I played a lot of these games on my comp. This is one of those games that I want to play which is on top of my list. The only thing is, I don’t own it. I so want to play it. Judging what I see. It looks really cool!!! Now I want to play pretty bad!!!

  2. Nice CGs, didn’t watch the anime yet, probably will but still have loads of stuff to watch

  3. is it… a eroge?! Dood…

    I really like the intro screen’s UI. It looks elegant and nice.

    Wouldn’t take too much for me to revamp my site to look sort of like that, actually… It might be interesting.

  4. @Rin: Is the Lucky Star fighting game the one that came with the PS2 game? Haven’t opened that one to try yet ^^; Maybe when you head to Japan you’ll be able to find it cheap? Then u can finally get it! =D

    @Belela-san: Yeah, backlog of stuff to watch is always a nasty thing, hope you get to see it soon, I do like how the anime went, and maybe you will enjoy it too =)

    @Radiant: Heh, pretty much any PC game I get is an eroge. Well, except for Little Busters! I guess. If the story’s interesting enough, I’ll grab it, or maybe in my case, if the goodies that come along with the game are good enough, I’ll grab it ^^;

  5. nice CG, very nice

    do you use AGTH to play japanese game? helped me alot while playing fortune arterial ^^

  6. @ron~: Nopes, never heard of it till u mentioned it ^^; I can understand it reasonably well anyway so it’s fine for me I guess. So you bought Fortune Arterial in the end? Got the first press edition I hope =)

  7. Just a CD lol, well it certainly is different with games released with wallpaper, screen savers, song files, etc. The art is nice, haven’t seen much like it in a while.

  8. @AS: There were probably pre-order bonuses (as with ef - the latter tale) but since that happened two years ago, guessed I missed out ^^; Yeah, the art is really something, any other game that is only available without any bonuses I probably wouldn’t go for :p
