~Ruka 「Ar Tonelico II」 瑠珂~
I totally loved Ar Tonelico when I got it, the game mechanics were interesting, the characters were sweet, and the soundtrack was totally awesome. Sadly, no figures were made of the characters (or if there was, I missed them and now I have to hunt them down!) in Ar Tonelico so when Ruka was announced, I pretty much had to get her since I guess I’ll be loving Ar Tonelico II as well ^^;
Had some misgivings about this figure though when I first saw Hobby Search’s shots of the actual product. Admittedly though, viewing her face in full is the domain for the brave. It just feels rather flat and wide, thus resulting in a kinda weird look. She’s looks perfectly fine from an angle though, which is probably why the prototype shots were that of an angle shot as well I suppose ^^;
Other than the face, I’m guessing the amount of rods as well as the high visibility of them might deter some collectors as well. But that’s the price you have to pay for a pose like that I guess. The metal rod sticks into her waist, and the plastic rod goes into her left foot.
Her face viewed from this angle is totally fine. Looks great even ^^ Eyes are super glossy though, readily reflecting stuff off them easily.
While this figure does suffer somewhat from a scrappy paint job at some parts, aspects such as the sculpt and detail are sweet though, and not just limited to the head region.
Other than the colors used for her clothes, I really like the design of it as well. The sculpt comes through nicely as well with the folds and motion. The see-through back is especially to kill for xD
Awesome tummy is what I’d like to point out, why it isn’t the focal point is something mysterious though… ^^;
For me at least, the clothes really maketh the figure and thus the support rods don’t seem too bad for me all in all.
Gets pretty simple once you hit the legs, though her footwear is pretty interesting to say the least.
While I did say it gets simple from the legs, it’s still not too bad though since there’s at least a ribbon at the thighs ^^ I think with the way the rods are positioned, it’s probably just as well the legs don’t draw that much attention. Without the rods though, the pose of Ruka’s legs probably wouldn’t be possible and I for one do enjoy the way this figure is posed =)
Didn’t bother to try too hard to obscure the rods, since to do so would probably lead to overkill in my case ^^; Nothing around the house that would be suitable for use as well, so hopefully the support doesn’t detract too much away from the figure =) Do enjoy.
As you can probably tell, I find myself favoring a slightly reverse view of her. Her back looks great and somehow even if she’s just wearing a rather thin tube top like clothing, she doesn’t feel very exposed to me. All in all a figure I’m happy with (though rather pricey), now here’s hoping NIS America decides to publish the game for the U/C crowd so I don’t have to resort to getting the JP version ^^b

Anoher figure I am waiting for to arrive hehe ^^
to enjoy it. Well, will have to finish Persona3 first hehe ^^;
I also loved the first Ar Tonelico game style/design/idea and am waiting for the 2nd opus of the game to be available over here (have an european ps2…
Too sad there isnt Misha or Aurica figure, I love those two (Shurelia as well, but not really my type hehe)
Ruka reminds me a bit of Misha, so I did not hesitated a second to order the figure.
I am glad to see through your pictures she looks great
@lu-k: Wow, seems like you have a container load of figures coming your way soon xD Gonna be pretty busy once they all arrive eh? =D~
Dropped Persona3 but have just picked up Persona3:FES so I’ll be working on that instead ^^; I actually like Shurelia the most, how could she not be your type?!?!?! :p But like you, all of them are really great, so sad that you can only use one of them in the party at a time
Well, to tell the truth, I fell in love with Misha when she grew up ^^; till then I prefered Aurica… but her Succubus outfits still turn me on hahaha ^^
About Shurelia, in fact, I like her, but only physically. After that, I was shocked to see such a little girl behind her armor… and I found the change of her temper too radical and a bit extravagant.
Hope Persona3:FES will be released over here, I’d love dressing Yuka-tan ^^;
Anyway, yep, a lot of figures are expected after “very calm” march and april months ^^;
But not much differences from what you took finally
And yep, will be quite busy with that haha, fortunately I will have one weak off from May the 1st. Fiiouuu~ ^^
I’m a big fan of the Ar Tonelico games. Sadly, I haven’t finished the second game. I still would love my hands on this figure!!!
After reading Lu-K’s article, I hope the figure won’t break and fall. It looks pretty stready. It’s a real nice figure still!!!
lovely figurine, very nice colors.. Ordered her but cancelled due to too many figurines for May..
do you happen to get bridget as well?
beautiful pics, especially the last one!!! I’m so excited since mine is coming on sat!!! =)
Shot 22 and 25. Awesome.
I had previously preordered this figure, but because of my current situation, I unfortunately had to cancel her. ;_;
After seeing her face on hobbysearch, it kind of deterred me from buying, and I sort of “tricked” myself into not buying it.
I really love the details of her little hat thing, and the pose is very dynamic. At least I’m able to enjoy the figure through your photos!
@lu-k: True that, Misha was lovely when grown up xD Aurica was very nice visually, but her character in the beginning quite annoyed me ^^; I’m looking forward to dressing up the characters too in P3:FES xD That’s gonna be so fun! :p So you’re getting a “Golden Week” holiday as well eh? NICE!
@Rin: I’m waiting on the N/A release (if that ever happens =/) before I can get to play AT2, but if it doesn’t, there’s always the JP version I guess which won’t be too bad, just slower progression -_- The figure should probably be fine in the long run, since the main support lies on the metal rod, with the plastic rod being more to “prop up” her left foot to make it look higher.
@ron~: Worked the other way for me, March/April was a killer month in terms of figures and May is going to be pretty slow for me xD Didn’t get Bridget since I’m not too familiar with GG and I’ve finally learned to resist stuff that I don’t know about! XD~
@Lustrous Realm: Awesome! Gonna be posting pics of her up when you get her? Or will u just be drooling over the weekend? =P
@Radiant: Dang, sad to hear you’ve canceled her. The HS pictures weren’t the most flattering definitely, but they did have a hint of truth since it really does look pretty odd from the full face view and since I figure you like your stuff critically, that might have made you regret in the long run. As always, glad that you enjoy the pics =) Hope your situation improves soon!
Awesome pics! Can’t wait for RosenQueen to ship it in a few more weeks.
Definitely sucks that those Aurica & Misha prototypes never went into production. I would have bought them for sure, especially Aurica. I’ve never seen a photo to prove it, but supposedly there was a Shurelia prototype as well.
@thudercloud: Sweet! I hope you get her sooner than later and without any hitches =) I bet you’ll enjoy her lots! I would have grabbed the figures had they gone into production as well. Hopefully someday, somewhere, the figures will start to get produced ^^b
was planning to get her.. but scrapped after seeing her face from a few sets of shots.. in some.. looks great.. in others.. the face so-so only.. maybe it’s the angle thingy like you said?
@Prim3: Yeps, she ain’t the most angle friendly figure. Translation from 2D to 3D wasn’t quite well achieved here I suppose.
[...] and if you are curious about how the hell she stands with that metal pole, you should visit his blog. In fact, I am so much thrilled that I have completely forgot about her support and the risks [...]
