~Nayuki Minase 「Kanon」 水瀬名雪~

One of the figures I always wanted but never managed to get it till Valiant informed me of a restock at Hobby Search. So I got her like waaaay back last year but only opened her tonight. Was excited on getting her, which slightly turned into disappointment since this figure isn’t the first-edition and so I’m missing the snow bunny :(  For sweet pictures of Nayuki with her snow bunny, look no further than Adun’s excellent post on Nayuki here.

Well all disappointment aside, this figure IS Nayuki after all and that kind of makes up for not having the snow bunny. Sure, having the bunny would be uber cool, but the main focus all in all is the figure, which I’m thankful to have ^^;

Had a bit of a problem putting her on the base, friggin pegs are pretty tight for me and I was getting worried I might break a peg or two. Was kind of worried that my nails (which is way overdue for a trimming) might scratch the paint of her too -_-

I like her sleepy and droopy looking (perhaps because it’s kind of how I am as well :p) but this isn’t half bad either. Some little spots of thick paint on her fringe thanks to the catch-all clause of “mass production”. Her likeness is there so all’s good.

Simple, yet not so simple. Enough detail is present in the hair that the viewer won’t find it boring. How her hand seems to be flicking her lock of hair back (according to my impression) is a nice touch as well.

Same uniform as Mai since they’re from the same school (duh). Decent paintjob.

A really simple, but sweet design.

Paint job gets pretty haphazard on the back of her skirt at the edges though. Thankfully the reverse is something we’re not exposed to too often but still, thats little consolation for those who are particular about paint jobs.

Her bag, in such awesomeness, that I’ve failed to focus on it, lol. Kotobukiya makes great bags though, thanks in part I’m sure to plenty of practice with their line of school girls after school girls, not that I’m complaining of course ^^;

Though she isn’t really the right character to be making such a statement as this, her legs are really hawt when I see it from this angle xD

Haven’t opened Ayu yet but I do hope Ayu’s boots are as nice as Nayuki’s. There really isn’t a whole lot of detail to the boots, maybe I just like the design of the boots in particular.

So you see, Kotobukiya CAN make nice bases after all. Now if only they applied that to just about almost every other figure past and present that they’ve produced -_-”

And before you mention it, yes Radiant, this is the same damned set I’ve been using for the past two shoots as well, lol :p I just don’t believe I can’t get more mileage out of it :p Perhaps I’ve still failed (which doesn’t mean I’ll stop trying mind you), but I hope everyone can enjoy it nonetheless =)

Ideally, I would have loved to build some street lamps with LEDs to add to this scene, but I have no know-how, and I’m a lazy bugger. But anyways, a real nice grab for Kanon fans and if I get possessed enough to grab the Cospa version of Nayuki from the shop, I probably will do a comparison shoot as well. Though from what I’m seeing of that version, it looks nice and all, but what really tempts me is that darned frog she’s hugging. So yeah anyways, Kotobukiya’s version of Nayuki should do more than satisfy most Kanon fans out there. It’s about as good as it gets. The only for it to be better would be if it came with the snow bunny :/

  1. Always love your sets ^^, the street lamps with leds are easy to make just grab a few leds, some resistances and plug them up although since you’re lazy then I don’t recommend you doing it XD. I still have to see Kanon but with so many series I still have to watch I don’t know when will I see it

  2. Very sweet figure. I like your setup this time. The lighting is perfect for it too. Well done! What did you use to get the snow? And how are you going to clean all that off?

    It’s the same cah-rayzee backlight I see too often! You know what would tie it together? Those christmas houses that you can buy so easily during the winter seasons. They’re everywhere! Would have made a nice backdrop. I strongly suggest you doing some photoshop man, it’ll just help it that much more!

  3. @Belela-san: Thanks, it seems like it would be fun to put those lEDs together but it takes a lot of pre-empting for me to get these materials for the shoot. I normally don’t go out expressly to grab stuff that I need, most of the time I just grab whatever catches my eye, much like how I build the sets too. I’m not a planner xD

    @Radiant: Used those fake snow sprays which I kidnapped from the store, heh :p Was contemplating taking a shower with the props just so they would get clean themselves, but falling down naked on a fence isn’t gonna be a pretty thing especially since the fence is small enough to go into the right places -_-”

    Those houses are nice, but one of the obstacles I’m constantly fighting against is the size of the backdrop paper and area I can work with, anything too big and I’ll just make it look cramped up, or you’ll start seeing the walls of my apartment. The only method I though of to counter would be to build a scene totally from scratch, but we all know that’ll never happen since it’s me xD

  4. The background is a nice match to the figure. Little stuff like details on the school bag make the figure that much better. I’m thinking of picking up Kanon, already have the first episode, just need to watch it.

  5. @AS: You haven’t watched Kanon!?!?!? For shame! :p Just the first episode won’t be enough, you need all of them, sit your arse down, and watch through it all in one sitting, forget school, forget life, forget everything else except Kanon. Do it =P
